Overview

Golden sunsets, sand dunes that stretch endlessly, and streets lined with honey-hued havelis — Jaisalmer is the desert dream that truly lives up to its name, the “Golden City.” This carefully crafted 3-day, 2-night Jaisalmer itinerary offers a perfect introduction to the Golden City — where history feels alive, adventure calls from the desert, and quiet moments of leisure let you simply breathe it all in.

From exploring the storied corridors of Jaisalmer Fort and the intricately carved Patwon Ki Haveli, to tracing the legends of the abandoned village of Kuldhara, every stop unveils a different facet of Rajasthan’s desert jewel. The highlight, of course, is an evening at the Sam Sand Dunes — where you’ll ride across rippling sands, watch the desert sky blush at sunset, and spend a magical night in a desert camp under a canopy of stars.

Designed to appeal to all kinds of travellers — families with kids, couples seeking romance, or explorers on a quick getaway — this itinerary ensures you don’t just visit Jaisalmer, you feel it. That’s why it is one of the most rewarding jaisalmer tour packages for travellers who want culture, history, and the magic of the desert.

Itinerary

Day 1

Day 1 — Golden City Arrival → Living Fort & Havelis

  • Your first hours in Jaisalmer are meant to feel like you’ve stepped into a sunlit dream. Golden sandstone glows in the desert light, narrow streets hum with life, and every corner seems to belong in a storybook.
  • Check into your hotel and unwind for a little bit.
  • Begin with a visit to Jaisalmer Fort. The iconic Sonar Quila, or “Golden Fort,” is one of the very few living forts in the world.
  • Make your way to Patwon Ki Haveli. Explore the intricate mirror work and carved brackets of the town’s most ornate merchant houses. Fun fact: this cluster of havelis was built by five brothers.
  • Visit the Salim Singh Ki Haveli. This 300-year-old haveli is instantly recognizable for its peacock-shaped arched roof and overhanging balconies that seem to defy gravity.
  • Return to the fort as the day winds down, this time not to explore its lanes but to watch the city transform under the desert sun. From rooftop cafés perched on its ramparts, Jaisalmer glows in hues of gold and amber, an unforgettable sight that lingers long after the sun dips.
  • Head back to your hotel for an overnight stay in Jaisalmer.

Day 2

Day 2 — Kuldhara Excursion → Sam Sand Dunes Desert Safari

  • This day captures Rajasthan’s two extremes — the haunting silence of an abandoned village and the vibrant pulse of the desert at night. From history-soaked ruins to camel bells echoing at sunset, it’s an arc of mystery, adventure, and pure magic.
  • Head to Kuldhara. Walk among empty homes and crumbling lanes; guides will tell the 19th-century tale of a vanished village and the many curses and legends that followed.
  • Head back to Jaisalmer for a relaxed lunch or short rest. Foodie tip: Don’t leave without trying Dal Baati Churma or Ker Sangri ki Sabzi.
  • Make your way to the Sam Sand Dunes, the gateway to Rajasthan’s Thar Desert. As the sun dips, the dunes glow golden — perfect for a camel ride that feels timeless or an open-jeep safari that’s thrilling and fast-paced.
  • The night belongs to the desert. Head to your desert camp. Expect a warm welcome with tikka and dhol beats, followed by a cultural performance of Kalbeliya dance and Rajasthani folk songs. As the bonfire crackles, enjoy a candlelight dinner under the stars.

Day 3

Day 3 — Jaisalmer Sightseeing → Departure

  • Your last day is about slowing down and letting Jaisalmer leave its final golden imprint — a softer side of the desert before you say goodbye. After the drama of forts and dunes, today offers gentler moments — quiet lakes, timeless stepwells, and soft desert light that lingers like a memory.
  • Begin with a sunrise walk across the dunes — the sand glows pink and gold, and camel silhouettes make for picture-perfect frames. Not an early riser? Stay wrapped in your blanket at camp and sip hot masala chai as the desert slowly wakes around you.
  • Make your way to Amar Sagar, a 17th-century stepwell and garden complex built by Maharawal Akhai Singh. Its ornate archways and tranquil setting make it one of Jaisalmer’s lesser-known gems, ideal for photography and quiet reflection.
  • End your journey at Gadisar Lake, a 14th-century man-made reservoir, once the city’s lifeline for water. Today, it’s dotted with shrines and chhatris; take a boat ride or simply stroll along the ghats.
  • Transfer to the station/airport for onward travel.
