Itinerary

Day 1

Day 1: Arrival → Jaipur Sightseeing → Departure

  • The golden city welcomes you with the sights, sounds, and tastes of Rajasthan that you have never experienced before. There is a reason Jaisalmer is known as the golden city. The city seems to be painted with gold with its towering sandstone buildings, made centuries ago. Today is a very exciting day, filled with adventure, history, culture, and romance of the Thar desert.
  • You will be picked up from the airport/railway station/wherever you are in the city. A short drive will bring you to the Jaisalmer fort.
  • If you arrive right when the fort opens at 9:00 a.m., then you will find less of a crowd as opposed to other times. This place is not an empty ruin. It is very much still alive and moving. The fort is, in fact, one of the world’s last living forts. People still reside there. There are many small shops and Jain temples to visit in the fort. Stroll along narrow lanes, small courtyards, and breathtaking terraces. Don’t forget to pause on a terrace so you can enjoy viewing the skyline of the honey-coloured rooftops. This is a great time for film-like photography.
  • Ask the local representative with you to tell you about the merchant families that once resided here. It will help bring the history of the fort to life!
  • A short downhill stroll from the fort brings you to another famous landmark, Patwon ki Haveli. This cluster of grand merchant mansions depicts the architectural brilliance of people in Jaisalmer. They give you a glimpse into the past- a time when merchants would trade items along the Silk Route.
  • The havelis close mid-day, so it is best to visit around mid-morning.
  • Travel to the nearby havelis now, which are Nathmal Ki Haveli and Salim Singh Ki Haveli. Nathmak Ki Haveli is famous for its twin facade and usage of both Rajputi and Islamic architectural styles. On the other hand, Salim Singh ki Haveli stands out for its peacock shape and curved roofline.
  • Now, we head towards Gadisar Lake. This location is peaceful and not too crowded.
  • For lunch, opt for a nearby cafe or heritage restaurant. Try a Rajasthani thali or the famous snacks of Jaisalmer like Ghotua Ladoo and Pyaaz ki Kachori.
  • After lunch, stroll through the bustling bazaars like Bhatia Bazaar or Sadar Bazaar. Here, you can shop for handmade artifacts, hand-embroidered textiles, carpets, and more.
  • Now, we head to Bada Bagh. This place is a beautiful garden of royal cenotaphs with a lot of history behind them. Ask the local representative assigned to you to better understand the stories behind these historical landmarks. This is a great place to take a ton of photos.
  • During this time, we will head to Sam Sand Dunes for a peaceful desert safari. Enjoy the beauty of the Thar Desert and its flora and fauna. The desert is even more beautiful during sunset. Don’t forget to photograph these moments that feel straight out of a fairytale.
  • Make your way back to the cityside. Enjoy a relaxed stroll along the Pansari Bazaar. Collect beautiful souvenirs from this trip to Jaisalmer full day sightseeing.
  • As your departure nears, we will drop you off at the railway station/airport/your desired destination in Jaisalmer. The golden city bids you farewell and wishes to see you sometime soon.
