Itinerary

Day 1

Day 1 — Arrival & City Exploration

  • Your Jaisalmer village tour package will start with your arrival to the Golden City. The afternoon sun shines warmly on the facades of the sandstone and the scent of spices and tea in the crowded lanes give a promise of the culture and history that lie ahead.
  • Relax and visit your heritage hotel.
  • Visit the famous Jaisalmer Fort which is a UNESCO World Heritage. It is a living fortress where centuries of history are in everyday life. Explore the tiny lanes, or enter the courtyards, and explore the complex Jain temples.
  • Go to Patwon Ki Haveli and Nathmal and Salim Singh Ki Havelis. Tour these larger, merchant houses, the finest jali work, the painted walls, the ornate balconies- peep show at the luxurious lifestyle of the traders in the 19th century.
  • Visit the Tazia Tower. Take snap shots of this magnificent building standing tall above the horizon and it can deliver a different vision of the architectural diversity of Jaisalmer.
  • Take a cup of chai or some cool refreshment at sunset and put the sandstone of the city in warm colours of gold and amber when viewed through the fort.
  • Head back to your hotel for an overnight stay.

Day 2

Day 2 — Jaisalmer Sightseeing

  • Enter the day that was taken out of the history books and movie screens. From the ruins of the sacred temples to the chillingly beautiful cenotaphs, the journey today is permeated with heritage. No wonder film directors of Sarfarosh and Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam among others, have been attracted by the surrealist scenery around Jaisalmer. Prepare for a day that is very film-like and that every monument has a story that can be retold.
  • Start at Lodurva (now a former capital of the Bhatti Rajput), where the legends about the Silk Route still hover. Explore carved-out Jain temples.
  • Travel to Bada Bagh in the late-morning or the early afternoon when the light is best. Stretching rows of royal cenotaphs (chhatris) grace the sand and this is the dream of a photographer. Know the history of the Bhatti dynasty here.
  • Take a detour on your way back to Bhatia Bazaar where you can shop textiles, mirror work and woodcraft. The best chance to get souvenirs and interact with local craftsmen.
  • Go back to your hotel and spend the night at Jaisalmer.

Day 3

Day 3 — Kuldhara & Desert Villages

  • Today, immerse yourself into the mystery and beats of Jaisalmer where the history and culture come alive through sun burnt sands and villages.
  • Kuldhara is a deserted village. It is well known by the tale that its inhabitants abandoned the place, without returning. The crumbled walls and windows create an arid mystery and make for great photographs.
  • Excursion to less famous hamlets of Kuldhara. Experience life in the countryside, the traditional arts, and desert farming in the expansive open scenery.
  • Reach the Khuri Dunes just in time for sunset. Take camel rides through the dunes and an open SUV dune bashing journey for those who are adventurous.
  • Arrive at your luxury desert camp. In the evenings they entertain with the Kalbeliya dancers, Manganiyar musicians, and Bonfire storytelling. The day ends with a private candlelit dinner while stargazing.

Day 4

Day 4 — Longewala War Memorial & Desert Hamlets

  • Today is a journey through courage, culture, and the vast wilderness of the Thar Desert. Passing through historic battlefields to the sleepy hamlet in the desert, the day will be full of amazing scenes, tales and experiences that will stay with you forever.
  • Visit the historical battlefield of Longewala Post, best known for the 1971 war between India and Pakistan. Witness preserved tanks, bunkers and educational exhibits which make history come alive.
  • Take a road trip to surrounding desert small villages on your way back to your desert stay, observing local society and culture. Stop for pictures of the sand plains and grazing desert animals.
  • Return to your desert camp. Spend a less chaotic night under the stars with stargazing or a hot cup of masala chai while listening to folk music.

Day 5

Day 5 — Departure from Jaisalmer

  • The last day is calm, relaxing, and perfect for capturing some final memories of your desert village safari tour package.
  • Early risers can watch the Sun rise as the rays paint the Khuri Dunes in gold and amber. Prefer a slow start? Sip chai at the camp and let the desert come to life, around you.
  • After breakfast, head back to town for one last exploration.
  • Go to the calm Gadisar Lake, an artificial reservoir, which has served as one of the waterways of the city. Ride a small boat over a short distance or walk along the ghats.
  • Last-minute shopping at Pansari Bazaar. Take textiles, woodwork and mirror-embroidered crafts as souvenirs.
  • Move to Jaisalmer railway station or airport for your journey ahead.
